The cakes baked in this tutorial are around 1.5″ depth. Usually a wedding cake tier would be considered at around 3″, but some can be twice the depth, just depending on the design.

hi there im from New Zealand and we don’t have poppets. is there a substitute I can use?

I’m not too familiar with what’s available, but Paul suggests just increasing the amount of matchmakers to replace the poppets. They just melt in to enhance the flavour. It’s a delicious cake 🙂

hi there again. So I’m about to smash this cake out, I am from New Zealand so finding your candy here can be challenging. I managed to find the club biscuits in some strange store that stocks everything under the sun, I haven’t been able to find poppets but have found match makers again in a strange store, but have found them. Now the recipe calls for 3 x packets of poppets that are 154g a pack, the matchmakers are 120g a packet. Shall I just throw 3 x packs of the matchmakers in? I am all about winging stuff but I really would like to get this cake to the exact flavour that you get it to as it looks epic. again hunting down mint aero was a mission but I did it.

    thanks

hi Kerstyn, the mint poppets are just to give the chocolate some extra flavouring. 3 packets of matchmakers will do exactly the same job, giving the chocolate a light mint taste. Hope the bake goes well after all your efforts. Good luck!
