Lesson 1 –  Shaping the cake

This lesson should be preceded by Introductions with health and safety notices. Duration 20 mins

• Following Paul’s instructions cut and shape the cake
• Ensure that sandwich layers have been sliced too!
• Put it all together (no ganache at this stage)

Lesson 2 – Ganaching the cake

Demo: 10mins    Activity: 30 mins

• Carve the sides to begin to shape the car
• Cut out the seating area from the top of the cake
• Cover all the layers with an even spreading of ganache

Lesson 3 – Smoothing the ganache

Demo: 2 mins    Activity: 18 mins

• With a hot palette knife smooth stroke the ganache to achieve a smooth finish
• Using your pastry brush give a final smoothing of the ganache
• Tidy your work space in prep for the next lesson

Lesson 4 – Icing the cake

Demo: 10 mins    Activity: 30 mins

• Roll out your sugarpaste then cover the cake
• Smooth into the shape of the car
• Cut out the seating area

Lesson 5 – Adding the wheel arches

Demo: 10 mins    Activity: 15 mins

• Design the wheel arch shape and create a template
• Cut out the wheel arches and trim then add to the cake
• Flip the template over to do the same with the other side

Lesson 6 – Covering the seating area

Demo: 10 mins    Activity: 15 mins

• Cut out a piece of sugarpaste to neatly fit into the seating area
• Carefully place then smooth into shape
• Add lines along the bonnet to give some of the design specifications

Lesson 7 – Creating the seats

Demo: 10 mins    Activity: 15 mins

• Cut out strips then create the back passenger seats
• Create the front seats from a piece of sugarpaste and line as necessary
• Add a trim to finish the front seats

Lesson 8A – Creating the tyres

This was done off camera, but at the start Paul explains the process of cutting out the tyre, decoration and trim then allows time for those pieces to dry. Create 6 tyres in total.

Demo: 5 mins    Activity: 15 mins

• Cover the board using two cut strips of sugarpaste
• Texturise with your choice of impression mat
• Add the ribbon

Lesson 9 – Add the tyres and wheel arches

Demo: 15 mins    Activity: 20 mins

• Stick the tyre and trim together then add to the cake
• Create a template for the wheel arch then cut out the sugarpaste
• Put some spaghetti in to allow the wheel arch sugarpaste to sit in place
• Add the wheel arches

Lesson 10 – Front grill, spare tyres and windscreen

• Cut and shape the spare tyres then stick to the car
