1. Constructing the stand

Before we begin making the cake, we have to first build a stand! In this lesson, Paul shows you how to design the stand and glue it all together.

2. Carving & ganaching

In this lesson, Paul uses a cardboard template to carve out the shape of the kart into two separate layers from one giant slab of cake!

3. Making the wheels

Paul chooses to make the wheels from polystyrene however they can be made from rice krispie treats and ganache. When making the wheels, it’s best to use trex rather than glue to prevent the sugarpaste from sticking when it is peeled away to reveal the blue strip.

4. Covering the cake

The best way to cover the cake is by using one large piece of paste rather than covering in panels. Remember to place the sugarpaste by hand over the centre dowel, then quickly work the paste into the awkward areas before smoothing down.

5. Decorating the kart

The key thing here is to make sure the decorations are done very neatly as this can hide any imperfections from covering the cake.
