Book cake

How to make a open book cake with American buttercream look like a Harry Potter spell book. Trying to make it look aged and more realistic. I bought a couple of blank edible images to try and lay them on top to help age but not quite sure if that’s what I need

Hi Lynn King

There are lots of really good tutorials on youtube on how to make open book cakes. Some are done in fondant but easily adapted to buttercream. If you search in youtube ‘how to make an open book cake’ you will have a several choices to use as guides.
The best which I can recommend in by Chef Yener of Yener’s way. It is a free tutorial on youtube and very much worth looking at. Chef Yener is somewhat of a perfectionest, bear with it! it’s worth it. See it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVgr9pl5P0M

Another one is by Liz Larson, take a peek at it but turn off the sound because the music will burst your ear drums. As I’ve mentioned, there are lots of choices, not all are in English but will give you a good bearing where to start and how to proceed with other features like aging the pages. I hope these suggestions will help. 🙂
