edible sequins

Hello, I’ve just ordered a few tubes of Rainbow Dust edible sequins to ‘encrust’ one cake tier. Couple of things…

1. How far do you think one tube (1.4g) will go?
2. Best way to apply? Tried to google help but can’t get on youtube videos – hoping someone here would be able to help me please?

Many thanks

Thanks one again MIWL 🙂 Just wanted to post an another answer to my own question now I’ve tried it out…

They are really easy to apply – I made the fondant slightly damp and simply sprinkled on and they stuck easily. The only trouble is that although there are probably thousands in a tube, they are VERY small and it took 3 tubes to sufficiently coat the top only of a 6″ round cake. (I only had 3 tubes, so had to change my design and leave the sides…) To coat the sides I was planning to gently roll the cake in the sequins but to do that I think you would need LOADS of tubes, and they are quite expensive…

Does anyone else have any experience with edible sequins, perhaps any other kind available?

Hello goldengoose25

The information here might help http://www.cake-stuff.com/edibles-c1/edible-decorations-c33/edible-confetti-c35/rainbow-dust-silver-sequins-edible-confetti-sprinkles-p1394

Apparently there are thousands in the tube and they can be stuck on with a damp paint brush.

Hi goldengoose25

This is great product feedback! I would have done exactly the same as you did but perhaps used it to dot around rather than do a solid coverage.
There are loads of tutorial online on how to make your own sequines with gelatine, you’d need the patience of Job but it can be done! There’s got to be an easier way.
You could try other suppliers http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edible-By-Design-Wedding-Sequins/dp/B00DPUGEUC#productDetails
Check out mother of pearl edible glitter from the same supplier which could be used for in filling spaces not covered in sequines. x
