Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
little ballerina cake
Hi I was wondering if the ruffle flowers Paul done on this cake could they be done in advance or are they best done the day you are doing the cake asking as I have these flowers to do on an 8″ cake but I will be away until two days before the cake is due just thinking it would save me a lot of time but would it be more difficult to nestle them against one another when they are fully dry xxx jay jay40

Hi jayjay40
I think you’d get far better results nestling the flowers in while the paste is soft, plus they will stick down quickly and more easily. That said, I guess you could make them up ahead but they will be harder to stick down once the paste is dry, even with the backs trimmed to make a flat
surface. I know they can be time consuming to make, however once you’ve got a little production line going you’ll be surprised how quickly they all come together. Eight inch cake is not big so it really won’t take that long to have it covered. I just have a feeling you’ll cost yourself time by trying to stick them on dry. xx

Maybe if you made some and kept them in Tupperware type containers, they would keep pliable, enough to for you to work with. Depending on when you need them, you might be able to try a few out?
