Hi, I don’t make many figure’s but have you tried Modelling Paste i have always found this to be the best for figures, or try adding more tylo powder & leaving it to rest overnight.

I use fondant with tylo to make models with no problems.  What fondant are you using?  What ratio – fondant to tylo –  are you using?

I just regular sugar paste and add Tylo. I use covapaste an add 1tsp per 250g.

I sometimes use half sugar paste and half flower paste, mixed together.

Hi Bev0_0

Those are all great tips above.  I usually add a little bit more tylo (just a 1/4 teaspoon at a time) if it doesn’t stiffen up and I don’t have time to leave it overnight.  I only add a tiny bit at a time  as it can really dry out the sugar paste and make it prone to cracking if you don’t work really quickly.

Hope that helps,

Apologies, I just noticed that the original question was asked by annabel!

I agree with Bev to try and leave overnight.  Sugar dough was a bit soft too but that suggests adding tylo for firming the paste.  I have found different brands of sugarpaste work differently.  I do like Karen Davies marshmallow paste (I should be on commission I say this so much) but it is more expensive especially if you need it delivered.  Still needs a bit of Tylo.  Have you tried Artista Soft?  It is not an edible medium but is good to work with.  http://www.artistasoft.co.uk/ Evelyn is more than helpful with questions you may have.

MS Sugar Silk Paste  is great for dressing the figure see http://www.celcrafts.co.uk/SugarSilkPics

see http://www.celcrafts.co.uk/VideoPlayerSSilk.htm for a demo of it’s use.  It rolls lovely and thin.
