Hi enquiring if anybody has painted plastic dowels have a cake which has red /white stripe dowels inserted into cake have straws but they are not strong enough any other suggestions welcome they are supporting a roof

Did you want painted dowels inside the cake? Unfortunately edible food colours don’t take well on plastic dowels.
Have you tried inserting the dowels inside the striped straws? That would give strength to support the roof.
Another way would be to extrude red and white fondant or gumpaste and stick it around the dowels to give the stripe effect. I’m not quite sure whether I’ve understood your question, please could you clarify a little more.
