When baking any sized cakes, whether they are wrapped in newspaper or not – thus giving more height between the oven racks where do you place the Oven Thermometer? – Is it in the centre of the Top Shelf or on the Middle Shelf regardless of the space between the racks?

I have a fan oven and place my thermometre hanging from the middle shelf away from the walls of the oven. In a fan oven it doesn’t really matter which shelf you place it because air is circulating the heat. Circulation of heat is impeded if cake tins or shelves are touching or too close to one another or cake tins too near the walls of the oven. This can give uneven bakes.
