1. Building Confidence in Cake Decorators

Confidence is something many cake decorators believe they either have or they don’t. In reality, confidence is a skill that can be learned, strengthened and practised over time. This Building Confidence in Cake decorators presentation is designed to help decorators recognise their value, manage imposter syndrome and step fully into their creative potential.

Many talented decorators quietly question whether they are “good enough”, even after years of experience. Imposter syndrome often shows up when comparing your work to others online, undervaluing your skills or hesitating to take opportunities. The truth is that growth in cake decorating comes from action, not perfection.

During this session, David shares practical, guided techniques to help you shift your mindset and build lasting self-belief, including:

  • Understanding why imposter syndrome affects creative business owners

  • Reframing self-doubt into constructive progress

  • Learning how to recognise and celebrate your real achievements

  • Developing confidence through consistent creative practice

  • Setting realistic goals that support long-term success

You will discover how confidence grows when you focus on progress rather than comparison. Small, intentional steps can transform how you approach new techniques, client work and business decisions.

Through guided reflection exercises, you will learn how to trust your instincts, make clearer decisions and present your work with pride. Confidence is not about being the best decorator in the room. It is about recognising your own strengths and allowing them to evolve.

By the end of this presentation, you will feel better equipped to overcome self-doubt, embrace opportunities and move forward with clarity. When confidence increases, creativity expands, and your business naturally follows.

Step into your potential, strengthen your mindset and begin reaching the level of success your skills truly deserve. This lesson is in support of the CakeFlix Business Boot Camp, which is a must for any cake decorator to reach their full potential.

David Brice is the lead business tutor with CakeFlix, which has won Cake Masters awards Best Learning Experience in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019.
David´s career started in the Army then he moved over to become a civil servant with the MOD then latterly the Scottish Government.  His job prior to leaving was as a speech writer for the Transport Minister, which came with huge kudos, good salary and great pension. However, he wasn´t fulfilled, he knew that there was more to life than the role that he found himself in.
David knew Paul for a couple of years before Paul started his Cake Business in 2002, helping with some of the paperwork and admin required to set up a business. As Paul´s success grew it was clear that his business needed more support so in 2005 David left the security of his job and joined Paul in the cake business. That was a leap of faith as David had not, and still hasn´t, decorated a cake. However, he could see the potential and they grew the business to seven outlets with 35 staff. It wasn´t all plain sailing and its the highs and lows of that journey along with a lot of studying on business best practice that he shares in his Cake Business tutorials.
Paul and David sold the cake business to concentrate on teaching and are passionate about sharing their knowledge and experiences to help others.
