Highlights
Highlights from the spaceship dreamer tutorial
1. Shaping the cake
Paul discusses the design then explains that the bed shape isn’t a cake size that most people would bake so Paul talks through how he uses the cake he has to get the shape. He then carves to shape.
2. Covering the cake
This is an awkward shape to cover to watch Paul make it look easy but explain what to do when things don’t quite work out.
3. Bedhead boosters
Want to hear some bedtime stories from Paul, well this is the lesson for you! He still manages to create the bedhead and booster for the rocket.
4. Carving the rocket nose
Paul considers a number of options before going for a carved polystyrene cylinder. It’s a messy job and of course non-edible so you can always go for rice krispie treats.
5. Covering the rocket nose
Always a challenge with an awkward shape but watch how Paul covers the nose to get a smooth, neat finish.
6. Decorating the board
What a mess Paul makes, but it’s worth it as he achieves his whooshing through the Galaxy effect in some style.
7. Adding the wings
Nice and straightforward just a case of cutting round the template and adding to the board.
8. Adding the nose and booster
This is where the design begins to take shape as Paul adds the nose and booster, offering a few alternatives along the way.
9. Decorating the spaceship
The devil is always in the detail and in this lesson Paul spends time adding those little touches that make this spaceship bed look special.
10. Adding the pillows
Paul creates and decorates the pillows and boys bedding with some more funny personal stories thrown in!
11. Legs and body of the spaceman
Using simple shapes and techniques Paul starts on the little boy’s feet, legs and body.
12. Adding the arms and hands
Same again, simple techniques to create the little boy’s arms and hands from sugarpaste.
13. Adding the head
This is where the design comes to life by adding the little boy’s head and facial features. Paul explains a number of ways to achieve the best finish but he goes for the finish with simple and quick techniques, but still has a great impact.
14. Pro lesson
Everything a professional cake decorator needs to know about making and selling this type of design.
15. Other ideas
Paul shares with you some other ideas you can create with the lessons learned via this tutorial.
