3 tiered wedding cake to tier fruit, Too heavy??

I have taken an order for a 3 tiered wedding cake, the bride not liking fruit cake did not want a large fruit tier but did want one to keep. I am doing a 12″ vanilla bottom (jam and cream) 10″ chocolate middle (choc buttercream) and a 8″ fruit top do you think this is going to be too heavy? how many dowels would you use? the cake is square. Would it be wise to finish the cake at the venue so it is not stacked for to long?

Hi goodie01

There are a couple of answers here which may help http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/fruit-cake-as-top-teir
I think your idea of finishing off at the venue is great. The other tiers could be ready stacked to save a little time
Paul’s tutorial on stacking cakes is here http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/stacking-cakes-overview
Good luck, hope all goes well.

Hi There,

I have recently done a wedding cake, 10 inch bottom vanilla, 8 inch chocolate truffle and 6 inch fruit and I was worried about the same thing, but I just used plenty of dowels and was great!

Hope that helps!
