Advice on transporting a wedding cake

Hi, I have been asked to make a three tiered wedding cake with a cascade of fondant roses going down the side that I will have to glue on with royal icing. I have never made a wedding cake or one as big as this and have no idea how to transport it. Do I transport the tiers separately then build it at the venue and stick the roses on or will it be ok to build it and attach the roses at home ? I am now going into panic mode lol, I would be grateful of any advice, thanks
Sandra

If you have the time I would make the roses up and leave to set and transport the layers separately and put it all together at the venue. If you take a small amount of royal icing with you to place the roses on it should not take that long. I hope this helps and best of luck once you have done one then you become that little bit more confident.

Hi dreamtimecakes

There are two answer here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/transporting-wedding-cake, one is from Paul. They both give good advice and hope they help. Good luck with your cakes, hope all goes well. x

Hi Sandra, for this design I would stack and decorate at home. Roses are relatively heavy and it can be quite tricky to get them to stay on the side if the cake without supporting them until the icing dries. So I would finish it the day before its to be transported and let everything dry overnight. To transport it I would put the boxed cake in the passenger footwell on a bit of non-slip matting and take the corners slowly!
