Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Airbrushing? Lustre dusts?
Hi, I’ve been looking at the tardis cake and the burger cake tutorials, I can’t afford an airbrush machine at the moment and I was wondering if anyone had tried using lustre colour dusts instead? If so did it work well? I thought I could use a thick paintbrush and use yellow dust for the burger bun and use a darker blue icing for the tardis and brush it patchy with black dust?
I would appreciate any advice thanks.

Hi 1979lizzy
There’s an answer here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/burger-cake which might help.
I’ve never used a thick paint brush before, I guess it would be fine as long as it has soft bristles something like a blusher brush so it doesn’t mark the sugarpaste. Build the colour up gradually and use darker shades to create shadows. Hope this helps.
Edit Your idea for the tardis sounds good!
