Attaching sugar roses to the top of a cake

I am making my sons wedding cake and am trying to attach sugar roses (preferable 3) on the top, I have made them on a wired cone but not sure which is the best way to attach them, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks x

Hello mrsymo

There are several tutorials on attaching wired flowers. I hope you find the following helpful:

If you want to put your roses on the top of the cake insert them in a posy pick and place them where you’d like the flowers to be.

Thank you x
I have always used posy picks but this cake is to have a few roses on the top to make a dome shape, they didn’t want any filler flowers and I am struggling to fill the area and hide the side of the roses so I wondered if I snipped the wires off and stuck them on with royal icing?( I have seen cakes in this style and they fill the top beautifully – mine has gaps no matter how I try!)
Would that work or would it dissolve the flower paste? I have used Squires SFP x

Hi mrsymo

What about making a dome of fondant and pushing the roses into this on top of the cake – not sure how to avoid some gaps though.

Looks like I totally misunderstood your question, I’m so sorry! x You certainly could cut off the wires and place them as suggested by gracecay. Paul does a similar placing in the rose wedding cake tutorial, however his flowers are not wired. You can see how he placed his roses by scrolling along to the posy and ribbon section in this lesson:
http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/rose-wedding-cake/lesson-7-ribbon-and-posey
If you cut the wires off you could do the same. Paul does say that you could make the dome on a small card first.
If you make the dome the same colour as the roses and fit them snuggled into each other, any gaps would be either disguised or filled in by the closeness of the flowers. Hope this makes sense. x

That is great, thank you. I have now attached them onto a smaller covered board having cut the wires off at the base of the rose. I have used royal icing and then disguised the gaps with rose petals in the same colour as the roses (ivory) It has worked quite well. Thanks for all of your help x

So pleased it’s all worked out for you. There’s always some reference point to go to in Paul’s tutorials. x
