Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
baby in a cradle cake
Hi, I am making the crib for the baby in a cradle cake. I am using mexian paste as instructed but as soon as I go to place the rolled out piece on top of the wires, it splits where it rests on the wires. I have tried rolling it thinly and thicker but there is no difference! Any suggestions?

Hi alma-grannell
In the tutorial Paul used either gum paste or flower paste and not Mexican paste. If you’re still having problems try embedding the wires in a sausage made from sugar paste similar to this http://www.cakeflix.com/handbag-cake-lesson-6-handles
Because the wires on the cradle are so small you could just roll them in the sugarpaste rather than try and thread them. Bend them into shape and leave to dry off before draping the canopy. Just an idea, hope it helps.
