bark effect

I’m making a tree cake and thought to cover the cake in chocolate covered fondant and then use a fork to give bark effect then paint it with chocolate to build layers. Has anyone tried that technique and will it work?

I’m thinking of doing the same thing, and just googled tree stump cake tutorial, and a couple of nice ones came up.not had chance to view them properly, but could see roots and branches added, then textured with various tools, also a round light brown circle was added to the top, and different sized circle cutters were used, to make the rings.

How about using FMM textured mats for bark and wood effect? See it here http://www.amazon.co.uk/FMM-Tree-Brick-Impression-Sugarcraft/sim/B001SSJWG6/2
