Best brand of fondant to use?

Hi I was wondering if someone could tell what is the best but affordable fondant to use for covering cakes? I have been using Dr Oetker from Tescos and recently it has been turning out awful! I would like to change but don’t know what brand to use.

Hello vanillaIced

If you’re looking for a budget fondant I can recommend Asda’s own 1k for £2.00. I use it a lot for childrens cakes and for making gumpaste, it works very well for me. I also use Renshaw’s regal ice and Satin ice. Renshaws is a good professional brand and isn’t too expensive, Satin ice is expensive, not every one gets on with it and there are many others at various prices. I know some members here think the Tesco own brand is very good, others like Sainbury’s own. I think it really depends on what sort of cakes you’ll be using the icing for. As an all rounder I think Renshaws is suitable for most applications. I’m sure you will hear other member’s opinions and preferences too.
