Bowl Size help!

Hi!

I am making a tom and jerry cake, and for tom’s head it specifies a 1.5lt (3 pint) bowl sized cake. Does anyone have any idea what size I should be using? I have two bowls which are 6′ in diameter, would this work?

Thanks so much for any help!

Hi kirstybaird

The 6″ bowls are equal to 1.5 pts or a 6″ round cake tin. 3 pints would be for an 8″ cake tin. If you bake in your bowls the mixture will over flow. What you could do is use the 8″ cake tin and carve the head using the teddy bear tutorial as a guide. Any good?? xx

Thanks madeitwithlove! It is this cake:

Ive had a look and i have a 2litre pyrex bowl, or a 1.5litre casserole dish which has a flatter top. Do you think one of these would be better?

Just had a look, what a great book! I think you’ll still have a bit of carving to do which ever size you used. I would probably go for the 2 litre and carve it down to size or just use an 8″ or 9″ round cake tin. Does the book have a template for carving? it doesn’t let you look inside for the Tom and Jerry cake.

It’s fab, a really good book 🙂 I ordered it from Amazon and it came really quickly 🙂

It doesn’t, simply says “use a 1.5litre (3pint) bowl shaped cake”. Not very descriptive!! I think I will go for the bigger and carve down a bit, think I will just have to wing it!

I’ve got a few of Debbie’s books and they’re all great but sometimes weights and measures aren’t all that clear.
I always do a bigger cake when carving simply to accommodate any mistakes I make and then nibble on left overs!! Good luck with the cake. xx
