“Buttercream” for lactose intolerant customer

Hi, I have been asked to make a giant cupcake with the buttercream swirls but the recipient is lactose intolerant. Please could anyone give me a nice recipe for a frosting that is stable enough to pipe that does not contain butter or milk.

Many thanks.

Hi creativebakes

There are hundreds of recipes for lactose free frosting recipes online. I don’t have a tried and tested one but this looks quite good http://www.glutenfreegigi.com/dairy-free-buttercream-frosting/

If you google search ‘lactose free butter cream’ there are many others to choose from. Hope this helps.

Hi. I make American crusting buttercream all the time without dairy products. (check out Wilton basic buttercream recipe) I use solid margarine only and it holds up just fine. Instead of the 2 tbsp of milk in the original recipe, I use either water, lemon juice or whatever else I think would go well with the flavours I’m using
