cake covered in hundreds and thousands

Hi Y’all
been asked to do a 21st birthday cake, two tiers bottom one covered in the tiny coloured balls, (cant remember are they hundreds and thousands??) anyhoooo, Im really stuck for time, in the middle of my step daughter’s wedding cake but cant really afford to say no. Has anyone done one of these and if so what’s the best way to get them on to stay on?

I have tried one before, not for a customer, I tried rolling the tier in the ball things but the cake kinda slipped about and, well, it just didnt look too good 🙁

Any tips would be most appreciated 🙂

Hello loufairy2

Presumably the cake will be covered in buttercream? Apart from rolling the cake in the hundreds and thousands, the only other way I’ve done it is by pressing the sprinkles or balls into the cake in the same way as you would press chopped nuts. I find a tilt and turn cake turntable helps to make the job a little easier. There are loads of tutorials of youtube, just search ‘how to press sprinkles into the side of a cake’. Too many to set a link. Hope you find one which you like. x
