Hi I’m attempting to do a cake in the shape of a Canon camera for a friends birthday. It’s going to be on top of an 8 inch fruit cake. Do I need to place it on a board before I stack it on the cake base, as the camera will be quite large ( including lens ) I wondered if it would just sit on top ?

Fruit cakes are usually strong enough to place another cake on but just for peace of mind I would recommend placing the camera on it’s own board for stacking, particularly as you say it is quite large. I think it looks neater too. Better safe than sorry!
