Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Catch of the Day tutorial
Hello! Greetings from sunny Malaysia!
Firstly, i have enjoyed and learnt greatly from Paul’s amazing tutorials. I’ve also enjoyed and observed the different styles and video format with the many and different ‘studios’ the tutorials were shot at. I think those taken in Scotland with the glass door and scenic view at the back is the best. Not only for the view but for the way the videos are captured.
Therefore, I have some feedback here rather than questions regarding the Catch of the Day tutorial. I find the tutorial though very informative and interesting, is too abrupt and not detailed enough for some of the lessons. For e.g., 1) the lesson on making the basket weave for the top lid, I wished we could see the process on how Rose do the lid especially how she completed the rim. The lesson only showed the beginning and one corner of the lid only. I understand that the idea is repetitive but i believed and noticed that certain parts of the weave is done differently. 2) it would have been better if we could see a close up of how Rose shaped the mouth and head of the fish. The process was somewhat not clear or hidden since it was facing her.
So, for future tutorials, I’m sure many would appreciate it if the camera is able to capture many angles rather than just front view and even closeup of the process especially those that require attention to details. Hope you know what I mean 🙂 Anyway, looking forward to more exciting tutorials from Paul and team! Thanks!

Hi I know exactly what you mean, the tutorials shot in Scotland seemed to be much more detailed. I was also unable to see how the mouth and head of the fish were created. I am also finding the background music a little off putting. I think we have just got used to the way Paul talks to us during his tutorials. Paul keeps them very informative but keeps your attention and its very light hearted and easy to watch. I have just actually given up on this weeks tutorial. More tutorials from Paul please. Thanks
