Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Cel buds
Hi
I have ordered 30ml cel buds to make large roses but they don’t have any wires on them. Please can somebody tell me what gauge of wire I need for them? I’d like to use the wire so that I can then put the roes into posy picks ready to insert into the cake. Alternatively would it be best just to stick the roses, minus a wire, onto the cake with royal icing? I’m not sure which method would be best so any help would be great thanks.

Hi bellscakes
Here is some advice on the different gauge wires and their uses

Your buds are 30 mm, scroll down in the table to see which you need. I would probably go for 20 gauge because roses can get weighty and need support.
If you don’t want to use wires a cocktail stick can be used instead which can be removed once the rose is made.
The rose can then be stuck to the cake either with royal icing or with white ganache. If you search in youtube
‘Patchwork cutter rose tutorial’ you’ll see Marion Frost making a rose using a cocktail stick. Her rose is small but the same method can be used to make any size rose. The link isn’t working that’s why I can’t set it for you here. For other tutorials using wires take a look at any of Paul’s flower tutorials. Hope this helps. x
