Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
CHECKING A FRUIT CKAE
Ive just made a 10 inch square fruit cake for the bottom of a 4 tier stacked cake, is there anyway to check that the cake is cooked thoroughly, it was in the oven for over 6 hours.
I want to check for my piece of mind, i would be mortified to serve a cake that was raw in the middle

Hi vicky267! You could use an apple corer to take a section out of the cake, if it is cooked, just put it back into the cake. The “core” won’t be noticed by the time it is fed, and covered. That’s what I do anyway, since I find that a metal cake tester is not always accurate.
Hello vicky267
If you type in the search box ‘help with fruit cake’ you’ll see other tips to help you check your cake.
I often find a metal skewer comes out clean even if the cake isn’t quite done, but a bamboo skewer is very reliable!
Thank you everyone
