Christmas explosion cake

I want to have a go at the christmas exploding cake this year, but wondered if anyone had tried it with a fruit cake rather than sponge.

I have never carved a fruit cake before, does anyone have any tips before I butcher one to pieces please??!!!

Hi
I’ve just carved this shape in fruit cake, to make a wonky cake, and must say that there was quite a bit of waste, although I was told that cake pops can be made out of the scraps, using chocolate to bind it together, but not done it myself.
A sharp knife is needed, not serrated, and just fill in any little holes with marzipan, before covering with the marzipan layer.

Hi mummykare

If your fruit cake is nicely matured you should’t have too many issues with crumbing. If cake is young you may have crumbling and breaking. You can remedy this by using boiled apricot jam as glue to stick bits back on. Good knife advice from Sharon, and you can also refer to the goldfish tutorial which uses FC, good tips there too.
