Hi scatt1992
It’s not a easy task to work out the cost as each oven is different so the amount of electricity needed will be different. Further more the cost of electricity varies from household to household and is dependant on what tariff you have negociated with your energy supplier. If you really want to calculate it you’ll need first of all to switch off every single appliance in your home, that includes freezer, fridges anything which is on standby etc. Once everything is turned off, take a note of your meter reading and turn your oven on with nothing else running. Run the oven for your 3.5 hours then read the meter again and subtract the first reading from the second reading. This will give you the amount of electricity used. Next step is to go to your utility bill which will tell you the cost per unit for your electric. Multiply the cost per unit by the amount of electric used to get the result. Unfortunately this will only give a partial answer. Energy companies charge a daily standing charge and the amount you pay for electricity varies depending on your total use. Confused?? ’cause I am!! I’m not in business so all I do on lenghthy bakes is add an extra £5.00 onto the bill.
Take a look at David’s and Paul’s blogs on how to make profit form cake decorting here:
