Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Covering a cake cost
I have another bakery that just wants me to cover a 5 tier cake. 8,10,12,14,16″ with fondant. I do my own cakes from the ground up including decorating so not sure how to price just the covering. Can anyone help me on how much to charge for this service. She needs it done today so I’m needing an answer as soon as someone can help me. I am in Canada but can work out the exchange rate.
Thank you so much for the help

Hi sweets6,
Unfortunately it’s not a quick answer. Pricing is a huge subject and we have a process within the Pro lessons to ensure that you are making profit from every quote which takes into account ingredient costs, running costs and your time.
A very quick rule would be to work out your approx ingredient costs, work out your time add a little to go towards your running costs then charge accordingly. I’ve just finished filming a new Pro course on pricing which will be released in a couple of weeks which goes into how 3 different designers with different circumstances arrive at 3 different prices for the same cake. Hope this helps.
Kind regards
David
