Covering a cake with Cocoform

Have made the chocolate wrap cake a couple of times but want to use the cocoform to cover a cake in the normal way.  Do you use it like sugarpaste?  I saw in Squires web-site they mentioned a 50/50  mixture of suagerpaste and cocoform.  Advice please!

Hi Gillian, I’ve used cocoform to cover a small cake in the usual way, it was lovely. Using half and half is much better for handling and of course keeps the expense down. I wouldn’t cover a large cake with it for financial reasons and because it starts to set up too fast.

Hi, I agree with MIWL.  Using a 50/50 mix gives a really great finish.  I used it when making a pirate ship and it moulded around it brilliantly and tasted so much better than fondant alone.

so when u guys say 50/50 does that mean mixing them together just the way u would mix sugarpaste colours?

Hi loufairy, you would knead together half sugar paste and half cocoform and roll out as normal.
