Cracked icing

Hi can anyone please tell me how to stop icing from cracking once it has been rolled out and shaped. I have recently made lips to top my cupcakes but they started cracking around the edges within half hour of making them. Thanks

Try adding a little white vegetable fat like trex/crisco to your sugarpaste before rolling out and shaping. Also avoid using too much icing sugar while you’re rolling out as it can cause drying, a sprinkling should be enough to keep the icing moving. Rubbing just a little of the trex on your work surface can also help prevent the sugar paste from sticking to it.
