Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Cream filling
I’m very new to baking
When I buy celebration cakes I noticed that most time there is a very white cream filling.
It’s not buttercream, well doesn’t taste like it anyway.
Can someone tell me what it is and how you make it?
Thanks shari x

Hi Shari
The buttercream fillings in shop bought cakes are a mix of vegetable fats, oils, flour and all sort s of emulsifiers and additives. You can make something similar to it by using shortening (trex) instead of butter and add flavour of your choice in the same way as you would make real butter cream. I’ve never made it so can’t say how it tastes.
If you’d like to make some to try there’s a recipe here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/butter-cream
Synthetic fillings are also available, you’ll see an answer here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/alternative-to-buttercream
The Americans use it a lot try betty Crocker recipes on line.I don,t like it. But I made it and it was popular
Thanks very much 🙂
Ill give that a try xx
