Crystal Palace cake – Omitted information

Hi Paul/ Team

Would it possible to list the names of suppliers under the CP tutorial? Paul hasn’t mentioned the number of baubles used for the three tiers and what the dimensions are of each of them. Never having used pillars for stacking I’d be a little concerned for the stability of the whole structure, so some reassurance from Paul would be great. Thank you very much.

Hi Madeitwithlove,

Appreciate you pointing these omissions out so we can now add the details to the Online Course.

The Crystal Palace cake uses 4″ plastic pillars, but you could easily use glass pillars or even shot glasses. As long as there’s not too much dancing close to the table then the pillars are reliable and secure.

There are 100 baubles used on the cake with a mix of 1″, 1 1/2″, 2″ diameter.

Suppliers used (mention Paul Bradford):

Baubles – Black Noir – http://www.black-noir.co.uk/
Lights – Lights 4 Fun – http://www.lights4fun.co.uk/
Stand – McNaughtan Glass – http://www.mcnaughtanglass.com/

Thanks Paul for this cake. I live in Nigeria. Please could you suggest any alternative on making the bubbles. Can I use transparent electric bulbs(hope I am not being crazy here). Will appreciate your reply.
Thank you.

Hi acabado

I hope you don’t mind me answering your question! I’m not so sure that electric light bulbs would be a good alternative because they are the wrong shape and too big. Perhaps mini jam jars would work better, the type which you find in hampers and wedding favours. Or how about small half sphere glass candle holders, the type which look like little gold fish bowls?
It’s difficult to make more suggestions as I’m not sure what is available to you in Nigeria, but anything rounded, clear and small might work. If you can purchase online you may be able get clear Christmas baubles. I googled ‘Clear Christmas baubles’ and found many suppliers world wide. Perhaps other members will also make more suggestions
