Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
De-humidifer
Hi everyone
Do any of you use a portable de-humidifer unit at home when you’re using sugarpaste? If so, what size unit do you have, is it any good and would you recommend a particular brand/model?
It is really humid here today – according to my weather app 92% humidity! Just been covering a tier of a wedding cake in ivory and also iced a board in black and everything was so sticky! Even the ivory was going shiny and sticky when I placed it on the cake and it was about 20 minutes before it was dry enough to get my smoother and acetates on it.
Thought I would canvas opinions before I buy one as it’s a lot of money to spend!

Hi Yvonne
The last really hot summer we had in the UK was in 2013 when shops were running out of fans and dehumidifiers. Back then I read in different forums how well they were received. I don’t own one. However, if you’d like excellent advice and great customer service I’d recommend Lakeland ( if you’re based in the UK). Their policy is that if you’re not happy with their product neither are they. This makes returning purchases very easy if you find you’re not happy with what you’ve bought. The Lakeland team are very helpful, just phone them up and have a natter, there’s no obligation to buy. Hope this helps a little. 🙂
Thanks MIWL, I’ll have a look, thankfully it’s not as sticky today! It wasn’t even particularly warm yesterday, only around 21 degrees but the humidity was horrendous!! xx
