Hi Sandra Connelly
Three weeks in advance is a good time. Allow three days for the marzipan to dry so no oils leach into the icing. Then ice; allow a day to form a nice skin before decorating. Some people decorate straight after icing. Personally, I prefer the icing to set first to avoid any accidental damage to the soft surface.
If you are icing a cake board, this can be done weeks in advance.
After decorating, place the cake in its cake box and store in a cool location in your home, away from direct sunlight or other heat sources.

Thank you for your advice.
