Designer shoe

Hi Paul, I hope you can help, I have been trying to make the designer art shoe in the tutorial on your site, purchased their super modelling paste but it doesn’t seem to be hardening as it should. How long does the super modelling paste take to become hard enough for the shoe to stand on its own. Your input would be appreciated.
Regards Gail

Hello Gailrhoda68

Modelling paste takes a very long time to dry so it’s always best to make shoes or models up a couple of weeks in advance. Changes in the weather, heat, rain and humidity all affect the drying time. Drying the shoes in a warmish room will help with the hardening process. I think ‘super modelling paste’ refers more to the strength of the paste once made into a shoe or model rather than to it’s fast drying ability. Some people dry models in the oven with just the oven light on, no heat. The heat which emanates from the bulb is suffcient to draw the moisture from the paste. If you google ‘how to dry gumpaste quickly’ you can read about different methods of expediting the drying. The heel will take the longest to dry because it is such a thick piece of paste. The sole also takes a long time. Once the shoe is made it is best to keep it very well ventilated without constant handling.

Unfortunately it’s just a case of waiting until dry.

Thank you Paul for your reply, need to be more patient I guess, had hoped to use the shoe for my daughters 21st cake tomorrow, but instead have used peony flowers. Will make sure when I try again I make it and leave it for a long time.

I hope your daughter has a wonderful 21st birthday. I’m sure she’ll love the peonies just as much because her mum made them! The love of a mother means more than anything in the world but I do understand your disappointment, I’m a mum too and we like to give our children the best we can! xx 🙂

Have a lovely day tomorrow. (sorry I’m not Paul 🙂 )
