Dowel Advice

Hi

Can anybody help please? I just made 2x 9inch round Zingy Lemon cakes (recipe from Jane Hornby Good Food, wedding cake). They seem to have turned out fine but are quite heavy as they are both drenched in lemon syrup. Should I put dowels in the base cake? I am concerned that the top one may collapse into the botton layer? Each of these layers only measure 2inch deep hence I made the two cake instead of just one. It’s for a birthday cake so I wanted some height. These cakes are intended for crumb coating and icing but I can’t imagine the sugar paste will adhere as the cakes are pretty damp.

Hi bellescakes

Yes, place dowels as normal to prevent any movement from the filling and also settling.
