Dowelling help!

Yikes!….. About to make my first wedding cake this weekend…and came across Paul’s dowelling video lessons….I have only made 2 tier cakes before but this weekends will be 4 tier….10/8/6 sponge and dummy 4…. All round…..think I have not been using enough dowels in the past but luckily not had any mishaps….should I be using 9 dowels for all 3 sponges…with maybe less for the top tier as it is just supporting a 4 in h dummy with one SFP rose on top?

Hi Mrscloudy1

You could use less dowels for the top tier since it’s just a dummy. Definitely keep the one in the middle.
I would absolutely use Paul’s method for the rest of the tiers.

Another tip, if the cake is 12 inches use 12 dowels, if it’s 10 inches use 10 dowels and so on.

Good luck, hope it all works out for you.
