I have been asked to make a dressing table cake . I was thinking of doing an 8 in square and cutting a gap out of the middle for the stool but not sure if the cake will collapse by doing it this way, was wondering if you had any suggestions if this way is not possible

A good Madeira cake will hold it’s own if you’re shaping it. Try “googling” dressing table cakes and see what suggestions come up. You’ll be surprised what’s out there and what people have already done. Great for ideas and tips.

If you want a more traditional table you don’t have to cut out the knee hole. All you’d do is carve a slight indent in the face of the cake to shape it. The recess can be covered in black icing so it looks like a knee hole.
