Dried pressed flowers

I have been asked to do a wedding cake with buttercream and decorated with dried pressed edible flowers , does anyone know how long the dried flowers will last on a cake . Could I put them on the cakes 2 days before wedding . Any advice would be appreciated as I’ve never worked with dried flowers before

Hi Dawn Huston

From my personal experience, I found the best method is to stick them on with a little tiny blob of melted white chocolate. The chocolate creates a barrier against the buttercream and prevents the flower from absorbing the oils from it.

Melt the chocolate on medium heat in the microwave in 20 or 30-second bursts, stir to incorporate the heat evenly to prevent burning the chocolate. Pour the melted into a small piping bag. Cut a small hole at the tip of the bag and use to stick the flowers on.

However, I am sure the flowers will survive more than a couple of days if stuck directly onto the buttercream. If you have a few dried flowers, experiment sticking them onto buttercream for a few days at room temperature to see how they react.
