Dummies for Dummies!

Hi all, I am going to order some polystyrene dummies to practice some wedding cake ideas. Do I just cover them with sugarpaste or do I need to cover them with something else first to get it to stick? Any tips appreciated!

If you’re just going to practice with designs and  want a surface you could also cover the dummies with royal icing, it’s a cheaper option and you wouldn’t be wasting fondant. I wash the royal icing off with warm water once I’ve learned the design, the styrofoam dries really quickly in the airing cupboard ready for the next project. Good practice too for learning royal icing technique and a transferable skill when ganaching.

I use water or Trex on mine to make them stick

Water is what i’ve used in the past, and it works well.
