Dummy cakes

I am trying to cover a dummy 6 ” cake with fondant and the damn stuff keeps ripping at the top. I thought maybe my fondant is too thin so I tried thicker, but the same keeps happening, what is the secret to getting it right? Please help if you can

Hi geradinefyahoo-ie

You can tap the sharp edge down with a rolling pin so it’s not quite so cutting or cover the dummy with some marzipan first which doesn’t normally rip. The marzipan will prevent the fondant tearing and also hide any lumps, bumps and flaws in the dummy giving a smoother look when the fondant is applied.
