edible paper

Paul asks for edible paper and the ‘paper’ he uses looks wafer thin but the one i’ve been offered in cake shops are very thin sugar paste sheets. The one paul uses has a backing sheet so i cant be wafer paper. Which one does he use?

Hi Barbara

Please could you say which tutorial you are viewing. In most tutorials Paul uses wafer paper when edible paper is called for. However, in the simple wedding cake tutorial he has used printed sugar sheets. Is this what you are thinking of?

Hi I’m looking at the camera tutorial where Paul mentions edible paper a few times.

I think he means if you want to keep it all edible and if you have an edible ink printer, google an image of the centre of the lens on edible/wafer paper and stick it on. If you want to do as Paul did and use a styrofoam lens, the glass center can be printed on non edible paper and stuck on. When Paul says edible paper it is wafer or rice paper that he is using.

Hi…he did take the backing off some printed images. Does wafer and rice paper have a backing to it?

No, wafer/rice paper doesn’t have a backing . Icing sheets do. I’ve just watched lesson 12 of the tutorial and it appears that Paul has indeed used edible icing images and he is seen in that lesson peeling off the image from the plastic backing. If you don’t have access to an edible ink printer, there are several online cake decorating stores who offer a printing service. The cake decorating company is one of many.

Ah! that’s where my confusion lies. Paul mentioned edible ‘paper’ but was seen taking off the backing paper. I have found two places near me who will print off the images. One of them uses a thinner sheet of sugar paste so went with them.
