Hi annabel

The quilting pattern has to be added soon after the cake has been iced. If the icing is allowed to harden the embossing will not come through. I don’t know which embosser you have, mine is the PME wrap around. I do get into a mess with matching up the diamond shapes and find Paul’s method much easier which you can see here http://www.cakeflix.com/handbag-cake-lesson-5-bag-detail-sides-and-zip If you have a steady hand and a good eye you should be able to match the pattern without problem. Sometimes the embossers have a plain border which can be trimmed off to give a more flush finish making it easier to align the pattern. Hope this helps.
Seasonal greetings to you too. x
