Embossing rolling pins

This may sound a stupid question, but I bought a large bossing rolling pin. How do use on fondant if I want to cover the cake because I’m rubbing the pattern out with my smoother.

Hi denise
I usually roll out my icing slightly thicker, once embossed pick the icing up in my arms rather than on the rolling pin to reduce too much stretching, and place on the cake, gently pressing down enough to stick. Trim off the excess as usual and leave to dry over night. I had this problem with the large Wilton textured mats, perseverance paid off, the rolling pins technique is the same. I find covering smaller cakes gives better results obviously because there is less weight to stretch out of shape. You might find some tutorials in youtube, I’ve had a quick look but can’t find anything with the bigger pins. Hope this helps.
