I would like to add a few different flavours to my cakes, and I have seen lorann oils advertised , can anyone tell me how strong they are, I want to add a few more choices than just the normal.

Hi nicky223

I used to use LorAnn oils and found the strength depended on the flavour. It was a case of experimenting with the strengths and writing down the number of drops used. I can’t remember whether the use instructions give a guide. I use Foodie flavours now in preference. These are highly concentrated food flavours with drop instructions. The oil based ones are for chocolate or ganache and the normal ones for food flavourings. Take a peek at their products here: http://www.foodieflavours.com/

Other ways of offering different flavours is to use infused simple syrups and in some instances fruit purees. If you are working for any length of time on a cake, it’s best to avoid purees as they can shorten cake shelf life. Some purees cook in better than others.

Thank you, I have seen these at Cake International in Birmingham and as I will be there next month I will check them out.

Thank you,

I expect they will have more flavours by now. The guy who owns Foodie flavours told me that they were working on more . Unfortunately I can’t make it this year but will definitely be trying all the newies. Have a lovely time at the cake show and be safe!
