Flavours and fillings

Hi

I have my son’s first birthday coming and since I have presented many beautifully decorated cakes to many kids , thanks to designer cakes, people have high expectations from me for this one.
Though I have no worries about the look go cake , I was wondering if any body can suggest me different flavour and filling combinations which are a hit . I have only made chocolate cake with ganache filling and vanilla sponge cake with buttercream / whipped cream and fresh pineapple fruit filling .
I will be very thankful if someone can suggest different flavours and fillings which are liked by kids as well as adults .

Even I am super excited about my son’ s birthday

Thanks in advance

Hi neha

For butter cream ideas have you seen the flavoured icing sugars here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/how-long-will-an-iced-cake-last
Any of the flavours can have white chocolate added to make chocolate butter cream. The flavours cover all ages from children to adult. More filling flavours ideas have a look here http://www.squires-shop.com/uk?gclid=CNyojKSZjb4CFUmWtAodsFQAuA
Most cake flavours are appreciated by all, however I would avoid strong lemon flavours and dark chocolate cakes for children. Some children also don’t particularly like carrot or fruit cake. Try and avoid anything containing nuts because of allergies. I would keep flavours simple for children.
For a much wider range of idea google ‘cake flavour ideas for children’ ‘cake flavour ideas for adults’.
Some flavour cakes I’ve made:

Vanilla and raspberry
Tangy lemon
Whole orange cake
Coffee and walnut
Banana, coconut with passionfruit
Orange and cinnamom
Rich chocolate
Honey cake
Honey and almond cake
Madeira cake

The list can go on and on! I tend to get a flavour in my mouth and I just have to make the cake. Try and find out the type of flavours your guests like then choose the most popular. If you’re making more than one cake perhaps make the birthday boy’s cake in a child friendly flavour and make a couple for adult tastes. I did that for one of my own big, big birthday. It kept everyone happy!
I’m not much good with buttercream but I have used the icing sugars from Sugar and Crumb and find them very good and extremly convenient.
