Flexible flower paste and Starch based flower paste

Hi everyone,
I watched a few of the wonderful Nicholas Lodge tutorials yesterday where he used a flexible flower paste in one tutorial and a starch based flower paste in another Has anyone got any recipes they’d be willing to share to make these, please? Thanks

Hi, Thanks- I found Nicholas’ flower paste and recipe and have made it. It’s great flower paste but, as he says, it does dry very quickly. Very easy to make, cheaper than ready made and lovely to use, so as I get more experienced and quicker the quick drying won’t be a problem xx

Hi madeitwithlove,
You’re correct, I am looking for a recipe for flexible flower paste (and one for starch based flower paste) but in the meantime I tried making Nicholas Hodge’s flower paste. I haven’t found anything for flexible flower paste yet, but when I do, I’ll definitely let you know.

I’m particularly interested in the flexible paste because it allows more time for gently moving the petals and, as I’m quite slow at making flowers, think it might help me. I also like the idea of more options when I’m arranging the final display.

I’ll keep on looking and hopefully come up with something. I might even try adapting a flower paste recipe to experiment.

Thanks for your help, and I hope to be in touch again soon. Best Wishes,
BerneseGirl

Hi again madeitwithlove,
I can’t remember if I’ve said that the new Arati Mirji flower paste is a flexible flower paste and I’m going to try it xx

Hi BerneseGirl

I haven’t been able to locate Chef Nicholas’ tutorials Did you view them here on Cakeflix?

I found some recipes on Pinterest which may be similar.

Hopefully other members will chip in with more suggestions.

Hi Made it with Love,

Thank you so much. Nicholas Lodge tutorials were on British Sugarcraft Guild Region 8 Facebook/Zoom. I’ll have a look at your suggestion and hopefully come back to you in a few days. Nicholas was demonstrating a David Austin rose and said the flexible flower paste was virtually indestructible and really good to work with. Also, the starch based paste apparently holds up better than normal flower paste especially in humid conditions Thanks for your help and hopefully I’ll get back to you soon. Take care and stay well xx

Thank you for getting back, that’s so thoughtful of you. That explains why I couldn’t find the tutorials on Cakeflix.

I think these new pastes will have guarded recipes for a while. However, just like most new products, copycat recipes become available. I hope for now, Pinterest has a solution for you. ?

Hi BerneseGirl

I didn’t realise you were enquiring about Chef Nicholas’ regular flower pastes. I was under the impression you were looking for the newer flexible flower pastes which we are seeing made from bean paste. I apologise if I had it wrong 🙂 and sending you off on a tangent

Flowerpaste recipe already exists right here on Cakeflix:

clarke baxter

….. and Chef has a multitude of tutorials on youtube too with his developed recipes.
Thank you so much for your feedback. xx

@Gadgetgirl Many thanks for your kind input. If you have come across a flexi flower paste recipe from Chef Nicholas, please could you share the link? 😉 or am I am missing it altogether 🙂 🙂

Yes, I know people are raving about Arati Mirji’s paste. I haven’t tried it yet because I’m not doing cakes anymore. However, with Christmas on its way, I may take the plunge. Did you take a look at the youtube video with the bean paste tutorial? I think Veena Azmanov has a recipe which she has adapted from someone else. Have a look at her site, it might be something useful. Eventually, all the new recipes will be copied, that’s how cake decorating evolves and new things are invented. Keep going, you’ll find something. You’ll definitely love Arti’s paste, anyone who is anyone just raves about it. XX 🙂
