Fondant cracking!!!

Hi, I’m am having very bad problems with my fondant cracking when I put on the cake. I am trying the Barbie cake at the moment but it just seems to be drying out really fast and cracking. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening???

Usually this occurs when not enough kneading fondant. It can also occur when you gave a different color and did not give him enough time to rest.

It’s probably the shape of the cake that’s the problem, too much weight hanging over the sides. If you are using icing sugar to roll out you could try smearing the work surface with trex instead. This might help to keep the sugarpaste from drying out so quickly. My Barbie cake was the same so I gave her lots of sparkly accessories to distract the eye!

Thanks for your help, it kills me watching the tutorial on Barbie cake as its so perfect.
I’ll give the trex ago and see if this helps with it. Thanks again 🙂

Could have done with this yesterday, my golf cake did exactly the same in the corners…definitely due to drying out…will try Trex next time!

HI
Cornflour is also good, or a mix of icing sugar and cornflour. I don’t use any when I knead only for when I roll out. I am always amazed at how much Paul puts on he seems to use lots and never has any problems ?

This week I have tried rolling out my paste on a square of bake-o-glide, which was quite successful. I didn’t use any icing sugar and its certainly less messy than trex! I taped the bake-o-glide to the work surface to stop it moving!

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is bake o glide? Where can you purchase it
Thanks

Hi Ashandiamo

It’s a non stick material similar to silicone but much thinner. Have a google, it’s good stuff! x

I got mine in Lakeland. I really want a green board like Paul’s but my kitchen is bursting at the seams and you can roll the bake-o-glide up to store it!

Hi Doodlecake

My kitchen is bursting at the seams too, I leave my green board out on my dining room table, my kitchen is the size of a shoe box and I don’t have a craft room. I have an artists portfolio bag which acts as storage if I want to put it away. Green board is fantastic, i can’t do without mine now. I do like bake-o-glide as well, and yes, it’s so handy to roll up and put away.
