Hi, can anyone suggest as to how I could make the windows for a lighthouse and possible beam?

Hi clan

In this link http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=lighthouse+toppers&lpid=25&keyword=lighthouse+toppers&clk_rvr_id=527325561689&crlp=16008511477_2683116_ICEP3&GUID=f593283013d0a5f16327dca7f666541e&adpos=1o1&MT_ID=10&device=c&geo_id=32251&keyword=lighthouse+toppers&rotation_id=710-35648-5910-0&crdt=0&ff1=keyword%3Dlighthouse%2Btoppers&ff3=1&ff4=69_25&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=69&ff13=84&ff14=25&ff17=lighthouse+toppers&ff19=0 there are lots of pictures of lighthouse toppers. If this was made from fondant the windows could be marked off either with a dark edible food pen or royal icing. Another option could be by extruding fondant through a clay gun and making a lead window effect. Not sure how you’d make the light beam out, but light shining in the windows can be done by using gold lustre dust with just a touch of orange. In one of those pictures a small gold star has been placed in the window to represent the lens. Just an idea, hope it makes some sense.

Hi there, I didn’t do a lighthouse, but I did do a house on the edge of frozen pond with a light in the window. I made a gum paste plaque and painted a scene of the inside of the room on it, and then carefully cut a piece of sheet gelatine to make the “window”. I put the placque in the cake, and about half an inch in front of it stuck the “window pane”. I used the same template to to the other windows, but simply rolled out gum paste very thinly, and stuck it to the inside of the gelatine to look like closed curtains…for the light beam I simply painted gold and yellow mixed accross the “ice” on the pond in a ray shape.
Hope that helps, it was really fiddly, but that was the thing I loved about it!
cheers
Ann
