What is the benefit of / reason for combining fondant with modelling chocolate?

I use the combo for small models which don’t require too much drying. They taste nicer than brittle gumpaste or over sweet sugarpaste. It’s a great combo for cake covering. Modelling chocolate on it’s own is very expensive, it also sets very quickly when trying to cover cakes, 50/50 is a good solution.
